Happy Birthday Emily!!

This is my chance to give a sappy tribute to Emily on her 29th birthday..

In a couple of days she will fly back to Atlanta.. and I am going to miss her terribly for a few weeks. It seems that every day that passes I need her a little more. Here in Egypt she has not only "put up" with a foreign culture, but invested herself in learning about Arabic women's literature (15 novels completed!) and getting down the rudimentaries of Arabic language (ana ismi Emily). Because of our daily conversations I have had a richer experience in the Middle East than ever before.. and that is entirely due to her own innate curiosity and interest in the world around us. It is wonderful how her curiosity leads her to notice details I would never notice. How many times have we laughed after putting down a paper, or walking through a museum, only to find out that we noticed something completely different? (Emily for example does not look at ceilings!)
